Should I get my family involved in my elder law planning?
If you have children whose opinions you trust and you add integrity and whose opinions you rely on, then I will really encourage my clients to bring those kids in on the initial consultation and preferably in the future meetings at the office as well. Most of the time, bringing the kids in with mom and dad on that first visit is helpful from so many different angles. It’s helpful for the kids to know what the game plan is, it’s helpful to have the kids there for mom and dad to be able to balance suggestions of them. And it’s good oftentimes for the whole family to have their input as to what their perceptions are and what their opinion is so that the plan that we put in place for mom and dad really is the best plan for them as a family unit.
