How would you advise someone who says, “I’m never going into a nursing home!” or, “I’m never going to need long-term care!”
None of us ever want to be in a nursing home, but statistically a large percentage of us will ultimately need long-term care. Often times the person needing the care isn’t really in a position to make that assessment. Lots of times clients have a stroke or a heart attack or they take a fall and they take up care whether they want to receive it or not, they’re not capable of taking care of themselves. Often times its Parkinson’s or dementia, Alzheimer’s that leads to the need for that care. I can appreciate that none of us want to ever need long-term care but practically most of us ultimately need long-term care.
