Can’t apply for Medicaid on my own?
You certainly apply for Medicaid on your own and a lot of people do. I tell people that if you don’t have anything, and you don’t have anything to lose, then applying on your own for Medicaid is not terribly risky. If you have a home or any asset that you stand to lose, it almost always pays to choose to get the help of somebody who does this day in and day out. The Medicaid manual that the Medicaid workers look at is about 800 pages long in Texas. The default rules are not very kind to folks needing Medicaid, but there are some very generous probations that can be utilised to make sure you’re not left impoverish, and that you don’t risk losing your house but by default you probably will become impoverish and probably will lose your house if you just handle it on your own and don’t seek good advice navigating those process.
